The Joy of the Urgent vs. The Mission of the Goal

The Joy of the Urgent vs. The Mission of the Goal

If we're really honest. This is the largest tension of any given week.... or any given Sunday if we're being really honest.

Here are some thoughts I've been formulating as I REALLLLLLY try to give my ADHD blessed brain a framework for how to succeed beyond fighting fires in the micro of any given day.

Enter MPMS and a few thoughts on winning both.
🧘 Macro Patience
🏃 Micro Speed

1. Embracing the Duality of Progress... bc progress is never linear in my experience

Success requires a long-term vision (macro patience) and short-term urgency (micro speed).
• Macro Patience: Staying committed to your quarterly or yearly goals without losing faith.
• Micro Speed: Tackling daily and weekly tasks with relentless execution.

2. The Craziness of a Given Week

Each week is a micro-battle—unexpected meetings, shifting priorities, and personal distractions. The key is:
✅ Speed of execution – Make fast decisions on small tasks.
✅ Adaptability – Plans will change; roll with it.
✅ Momentum mindset – Done is better than perfect.

3. The Mini-Macro of Quarterly Targets (preventing mission drift 🚨)

Big goals don’t happen in a week, even breaking down annual goals into smaller tasks breaks my brain and willpower. I've reserved myself to set Quarterly Targets as a tool to dial up the intensity and focus required to win more than just micro moments.

I love the number 7... so 6 quarterly objectives has been what I settled on. Feels like enough to spark joy that I can stay attentive to all the things that matter and get to jump around - while still getting the focused required to move things from in progress to completed inside of 90 days.

4. ADHD & The Joy of Urgency

For those with ADHD or fast-moving minds, this framework aligns with natural tendencies:
• Urgency creates focus (weekly deadlines beat vague long-term plans).
• Short sprints fuel dopamine (quick wins keep motivation high).
• Rapid context switching can be an asset (if channeled properly). 🪜 This one is YAHHHHUGEEEE

5. A Simple Weekly Plan for Success

📌 Monday: Set 3 key outcomes for the week.
⚡ Daily: Prioritize fast-action tasks.
🔄 Mid-week: Adjust & refine based on reality.
✅ Friday: Reflect, review, and recalibrate.

Final Thought

Macro success is a marathon built on micro sprints. Move fast this week, but trust the bigger game plan and for the love of success do not drift.

Repeat after me Joshua... do not drift 😇

Now go win the week. 🚀
